 | On Remembering the Old Building..... "That wonderful, wonderful building. I thought I was just going from my house to somebody else's house when I got here, it was the most comfortable feeling. I loved the nooks and crannies and the big rooms. There was lots of space for paintings and creating drama. The building, even in its grandness was a comforting place to come, but that was also because of the people inside...all so different all such incredibly wonderful people.." --- Margot Semler '42
"I remember thinking it was neat that there was a fireplace in the classroom and the building really feeling like home. I also remember Mrs. Taylor allowing us to paint the walls of the lunchroom--- on United Nations Day." -- Jim Paragamian '64
"I remember my time in the art room with Mrs. Glass. I remember the gatehouse very well and there was a little playground where the nursery school was...My mother taught in the little sunroom at the back of the mansion which was off the main Kindergarten room." -- Ashely Ball Simpson '58 (Current Beauvoir Librarian)

That "Beauvoir" Feeling..... "I guess for me there isn't one specific memory but it's an overall memory of being in a place that I enjoyed coming to as a student. I liked all of my teachers here...teachers who always made you as a small child, feel comfortable in these surroundings and I think that is what Beauvoir is all about. Over the years, Beauvoir has changed significantly, the buildings have changed massively but the people really haven't changed. The same dedication, the same energy that people into there jobs when I was at Beauvoir still exist today." -- Bob Giese '59
"One has an overall general impression, a very happy and positive one. I can tell Beauvoir is still a very happy and supportive place." ---Bob Shorb '40
"When I walked into the building I was blown away. I watched the teachers interacting with students, the students interacting with each other, teachers kneeling down to look children in the eye, I saw teachers asking more than telling, I saw students helping each other collaboratively." - Paula J. Carreiro, Head of School, on her first trip to Beauvoir

On Sending Your Kids to Beauvoir... "I love the Life Rules because they are simple but have meaning even if you have a different level of intricacy or sophistication so even the smallest child can understand them. They are simple, plain and fundamental to everything we hope to be and hopefully that we are. The Life Rules are a good common denominator!" - Chrissie McHenry, Parent of Alumnae, Former Parent Association President
"The Beauvoir Life Rules work into a child's confidence, the Child knows he's done the right thing-- he or she may not be the top athlete or scholar but when he 's done the right thing and behaved with the ideals of the Life Rules, it gives a confidence through life, Beauvoir does as good of a job of that as any school I could imagine." -- Todd Boley ' 76, Former Beauvoir Parent
"It is not so much reading, writing or arithmetic, it is making children feel good about themselves and instilling confidence about what they are doing and take on things so that they are getting ready for the next eighty or so years after they leave. That is what Beauvoir does to make children feel good about themselves, make families feel good about themselves too." -- Debbie Giese, Parent of Alumnae
